17 January 2008

Today was my first day of the Business Law class, which is going to end up being about "English Law". I read on the Blackboard (a website that allows for the professor to post course materials and announcements) that the professor expects for us to take good notes and use shorthand where possible, so I brought my laptop with me... and I was the only one... but I was the smartest one. He wasn't kidding with the amount of notes. Yikes! I can't write that much. Hand cramps up. I'm sure you can relate.

The class was HUGE and was held in a lecture hall.

The way the classes are held here are really nice. There is an hour and a half of lecture and another hour and a half of what they call a "seminar". The lecture is a large class and the seminars are broken down in to smaller groups where you can discuss what happened in the lecture. I like it! You can ask questions and get a more detailed understanding of what you're learning. It's so much better than sitting in a lecture for 3 hours.

Haven't done much today other than sit around at school... studying a little. I'm suppose to meet up with Ian (pictured above) in about 30 minutes, so I better get going.

Just got back from "hanging out" with Ian. I just learned tonight that they don't use the phrase "hanging out", which is why it's in quotes. I also got laughed at for calling a "tap" a faucet and my "pants"... well... pants here are undies. KFoy likes to "take the piss" (so they say for "to make fun of") when I say "uh hu" instead of "you're welcome". The little trivial things... Anyway, the picture(s) I have attached were taken tonight. Ian and I went for a walk along the river (not a very long one) and this is what I saw - The Tower Bridge (most Americans confuse this for the London Bridge... the London Bridge is FAR less exciting).
